It’s difficult to pass through the southern town of Tusayan en route to the Grand Canyon without noticing the large amounts of low flying aircraft present overhead. The Grand Canyon Airport offers high rollers the opportunity to fly right to the cusp of the National Park; with stunning views of the canyon during the landing procedure.
But for those without their own private plane, Grand Canyon Airlines has you covered. While there are a plethora of companies operating out of the Grand Canyon Airport, it’s of my opinion that GC Airlines offers a little more, for a better deal. This assessment coming from the length of the tour, the availability, and the price. By comparison other companies charge double or more for their tours of similar length. However, the routes of all aircraft are the same, only the altitudes vary, and of course, the vehicles themselves. Other companies offer helicopters, but as you can imagine, offer them at a premium. With most prices starting around the $250 ball park for a similar ride as the plane.
What ever you choose to do, you will find the airport just south of Tusayan, right before it’s first roundabout (the town is bracketed by two roundabouts). Parking is plentiful, and being a litter early always helps, this will allow you to check in, get weighed for your ride, and settle any nerves or abdominal distress before your ride. It would be my recommendation that if you know you have a sensitive stomach, or are unsure, to not put any food or beverage into your system before your flight. And purge as much as you can before your flight. As even some of my own adventurous friends found it difficult to keep lunch down after the small craft began to pitch, and yaw.
